This Styrian cheese speciality requires at least six weeks to mature in Voitsberg, Styria. Red cultures give the cheese its piquant taste and reddish-brown natural rind. Dachsteiner has a soft, creamy consistency and a robust, piquant aroma, making it not only suitable for cheese platters and snacks, but also for warm cheese dishes (fondue, cheese spaetzle, au gratins). Dachsteiner is available in 150 g slices on the self-service dairy shelf and can be cut to order from the 4 kg blocks at the delicatessen counter.
