Why disposable glass?
Glass – whether disposable or reusable – is a very sustainable packaging material. Unlike plastic and composite cartons, it can be completely recycled any number of times. Why disposable glass?
Glass – whether disposable or reusable – is a very sustainable packaging material. Unlike plastic and composite cartons, it can be completely recycled any number of times. We opted for disposable glass because the transportation and cleaning costs associated with a deposit scheme are now as high as the cost of producing new bottles. Dairy products are also highly sensitive in terms of spoilage and smell. Returnable bottles must therefore be washed with large quantities of hot water and strong detergents. Returning bottles in stores would also lead to bad smells and insects if the bottles were not properly cleaned. This is where disposable bottles offer benefits and guaranteed product safety.
Furthermore, it should be mentioned that the recycling rate for glass in Austria stands at more than 90%, meaning that a large proportion of used glass goes towards making new glass. So, even without returns schemes, there is already an almost closed-loop materials cycle. Last but not least, the risk of quality impairment due to contamination and splintering is much higher with reused glass than with new glass, so product safety arguments also speak in favour of disposable glass.

During the production of this milk, animal welfare is also a top priority. Our family-run farms make sure that the cows are completely comfortable in small, manageable herds. This is regularly monitored by independent certification bodies (e.g. TGD – Austrian animal welfare service).
